Phaidon 55

Phaidon has a lovely series of little photography books called Phaidon 55. They include a very good (at least in the ones I’ve read so far…) biographical essay in addition to the descriptions of the photographs.

Each book contains 55 of the photographers key works, presented chronologically, and through them tells the photographers own story and that of the world that shaped their views.

I have picked up 7 different ones so far. I get them at Powell’s, where they seem to always have a handful of them on sale for under $4 and the selection seems to rotate. It’s working out nicely. If anyone ever needs a cheap gift to get me… ;)

  1. Looking again, I seem to have two copies of the Joseph Sudek book. I may have to run a little contest or something to give it away, since I am sure I don’t have a receipt anymore…
